Our team

Lucy Byrne

Lucy started Bluemoth Consulting after moving from Auckland to Nelson in 2023 to help businesses have a better understanding of their impacts on the environment. After making an impact on the Nelson community, she was nominated for ‘Young Business Leader Awardʼ in 2025 as someone who is driving change in the region.

 

She is a connector, the person youʼll likely be communicating with if you reach out to Bluemoth. Lucy has previously worked as a project manager in circular economy, an environment and sustainability advisor in the private sector and for local government in climate action. She has delivered successful projects within organisations from sustainability plans to emissions inventory reports and led the community engagement on Nelsonʼs first Climate Change Strategy.

 

Qualifications:

  • Winchester University, Bachelor of Arts with Honours, Media and Communications
  • Certified in Carbon Inventory Reporting in alignment with ISO 14064
  • Level 1 of Te Pōkaitahi Reo

David Hazard

David has worked with our clients to successfully deliver emissions reporting and reduction strategies in their businesses and is ready to tackle any problem big or small. He comes with a big passion for making positive environmental change and has an in-depth knowledge of sustainability principles.

 

Prior to establishing Bluemoth David worked as a Mechanical Design Engineer across a variety of industries gaining valuable analytical and practical problem-solving skills. He sees a need for fundamental changes in design and manufacturing principles with the whole life cycle in-mind.

 

David has a connection to the outdoors and strong interest in protecting the natural environment in Aotearoa and reducing the impact we have on it.

 

Qualifications:

  • University of Auckland, Mechanical Engineering (Hons)

  • Level 1 of Te Pōkaitahi Reo
  • CEP Preparing a GHG Inventory in alignment with ISO 14064
  • CEP Target Setting and Monitoring

How we operate

Our suppliers

 

  • We bank with Kiwibank. We wanted to ensure we were banking with the most ethical bank so we did our research and Kiwibank and The Co-operative bank came out on top
  • Hosting our website with a local business in New Zealand – myhost
  • 100% renewable power from Ecotricity
  • Secondhand electronics – we have secondhand phones and laptops
  • Our KiwiSaver is with Pathfinder 

 

Our operations

 

  • We are focused on businesses based in Nelson and Tasman so where possible we travel by bike or public transport. We also provide our services online for those based in other regions

  • Working from home or a shared office space
  • Support nature regeneration projects volunteering and donating

 

Support our local region

 

  • Donate 5% of profits to nature regeneration projects in the Nelson and Tasman region

  • Volunteer once a month with local environmental projects
